Organic Crispy Teriyaki Tofu Recipe

Ingredients:

– 16 oz. firm tofu
– 3 tsp cornstarch (to start, add more as needed)
– 2 Tbsp avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil
– 4 Tbsp sweet teriyaki sauce
– 1 Tbsp soy sauce
– 1 Tbsp honey or agave syrup
– 1 tsp minced garlic
– 1 tsp ginger paste
– 1 tsp avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil
– Pinch red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Recipe Steps:

1. Prepare the tofu: Press the excess water out of the tofu. Then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
2. Coat the tofu: Toss cubes in cornstarch until evenly coated.
3. Cook the tofu: Heat the oil in a skillet on medium. Then cook the tofu cubes until they are crispy and golden on all sides (2-3 minutes per side). Set aside.
4. Sauce preparation: Whisk sweet teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, the additional teaspoon of oil, and optional red pepper flakes together.
5. Combine: Pour the sauce into the skillet and simmer over medium heat. Add the crispy tofu back into the skillet, cooking for 2-3 minutes until coated and the glaze has thickened.
6. Serve: Serve warm with rice and vegetables.

Cost-saving Shopping Tip: Costco has had a great deal on a 4-pack of organic firm tofu for a while. The last time I bought it, it was under $8. Imagine making your family four organic, healthy dinners, and the protein is only about $2 per meal!
